3. GENERAL RULES

3.1. Rogaining is a competition in which teams (and individuals in the MTB and rogaining run distances) navigate in the terrain and visit control points marked on the map in an order of their own choice. Each control point has a different point value. The aim is to collect as many points as possible within the time limit for the chosen distance.
3.2. Participants move along the course only on foot (in MTB distances – by bicycle), using the competition map issued by the organisers for navigation. Electronic navigation devices may only be used in case of getting lost.
3.3. Traffic is not stopped during the rogaining. By taking part in the competition, participants are obliged to follow the Road Traffic Regulations of the Republic of Latvia, obey the instructions of the competition judges and organisers, and respect specially marked areas on the course and in the event centre.
3.4. The organisers reserve the right to delay the start, change the course of the competition, hold teams on the course or stop the competition if there are dangerous weather conditions or other circumstances that pose a safety risk to participants.
3.5. Within the competition it is allowed to include a company’s or organisation’s name or brand in the team name and to place stickers on equipment and participants’ clothing in accordance with these regulations. Any type of company or organisation marketing activity that has not been coordinated with the organisers is prohibited during the competition and related events. The penalty for non-compliance with this point is EUR 2000. Advertising is allowed on participants’ clothing, footwear and equipment (backpacks etc.).
3.6. The organisers reserve the right to change and amend these rules, procedures and requirements at any time before and during the competition.

8. COURSE AND PUNCHING

8.1. The competition is held in accordance with the rogaining rules approved by LOF (Latvian Orienteering Federation), unless otherwise stated in these regulations. The rules in Latvian are published on the Latvian rogaining website: https://rogaining.lv/web/noteikumi.
8.2. Before the start, each participant receives a set of maps – one competition map per participant.
8.3. During the competition, the bib number must be worn in a visible place – on the backpack or on the competition clothing.
8.4. Punching at control points is done using the SPORTIdent system. Each team member uses an SI card issued by the organisers. SI cards are assigned to the team, not to specific participants, therefore it does not matter which team member uses which SI card.
8.5. For a control point to be counted, all team members must punch at that control point within two minutes, and only the first punch is taken into account. If a participant punches several times, only their first punch at that particular control point is counted. Therefore, do not approach the control point until you are sure that the whole team will be able to punch within the set time.
8.6. Using the issued wristbands, before the start the team members must firmly attach the SI card to their wrist in such a way that it cannot be removed without damaging the wristband, and make sure that the SI card is not damaged or torn off until the finish, where it may only be removed by a competition judge. Starting with a non-attached SI card may result in disqualification or another penalty at the chief judge’s discretion.
8.7. If there is no sound signal or red light when punching at a control point, if the SI station is missing or the control point is damaged, participants must act according to the instructions printed on the map.
8.8. The team’s finish time is recorded at the moment when the last team member punches at the finish control. After punching at the finish, in the finish area under the supervision of judges, the SI wristband must be removed, the SI card and any rented equipment must be returned.
8.9. For every minute late after the time limit, the team receives 1 penalty point, which is deducted from the total points collected. If a team finishes more than 30 minutes after the time limit, all points are taken away. Control points visited after the time limit are not counted.
8.10. For every broken SI wristband, the team receives 5 penalty points, which are deducted from the total points collected.
8.11. Participants must follow the principles of fair play both on the course and in the use of equipment and other prohibited aids. Running with a dog is allowed only on a leash. If, in the opinion of the judges, this creates an advantage, it is also considered an aid, and in such cases the result is calculated, but in the results list it is marked as out of competition.
8.12. If an accident happens to any team member or if the team cannot continue the course for any other reason, they must contact the judges and coordinate further action.
8.13. After finishing or retiring from the course, participants must return the rented SI card and any other rented equipment to the organisers. At the moment of returning the equipment, the participant must make sure that the receiving judge has recorded all returned items. For any rented equipment that is not returned, the participant must pay a penalty in accordance with these regulations.
8.14. It is forbidden to leave any kind of litter on the course, to cross crops, private yards of farmsteads, forbidden areas, to violate private property restrictions, to use motorised vehicles, or to use any outside assistance, except in cases where first aid is required.
8.15. At the judges’ discretion, penalties may also be imposed for other violations not specified in these regulations, if in the judges’ opinion they have created an advantage, disturbance or danger for other participants. For example, moving or damaging control points, etc. The penalties imposed may be penalty points or disqualification.

9.    EQUIPMENT AND EQUIPMENT RENTAL

9.1. For planning and completing the course, the following equipment is useful: a compass with degree scale, a pen (waterproof marker for planning and notes), ruler, watch, sports drink, energy food, weather-appropriate clothing.
9.2. Participants can rent compasses by pre-booking them during registration on the website or by writing to xevents@xevents.lv
9.3. Participants must handle rented equipment with care and return it to the organisers undamaged. If rented equipment is damaged or lost during the course, the participant must compensate the organisers for the losses as follows: SI card – EUR 80; compass – EUR 20; GPS – EUR 80. The participant must cover the losses within 3 working days after the competition by transferring the money to the organisers’ bank account.
9.4.    For calling for help in emergencies, a mobile phone (preferably in a waterproof case) and/or a whistle is recommended but not mandatory.

10. RESULTS AND PRIZE-GIVING

10.1. The result is formed by the total points collected at control points registered in the SI cards, minus penalty points. If two or more teams (or individuals in the 3h MTB and 2h O-Run distances) have the same number of points, the team that collected this number of points in a shorter time is ranked higher.
10.2. The official results are published on the event website no later than 3 days after the competition.
10.3. Prizes are awarded to the top three places in each group. The organisers reserve the right to congratulate only the winners of the first place if the number of teams or participants in a certain group does not exceed 6 teams. Teams are ranked and awarded only within their age group; therefore, junior, veteran and super-veteran teams do not compete with and are not awarded within the Open group.
10.4. Protests must be submitted in writing no later than 15 minutes after the announcement of the results, with a security deposit of EUR 30. The deposit is returned if the protest is upheld. The protest is reviewed immediately, if no additional information and investigation are required. All interested parties are informed about the decision taken. The decision of the chief judge is final and binding on all participants.

11. TVNET+ CORPORATE CHALLENGE AWARD

11.1. The goal of the TVNET+ Corporate Challenge Award (hereinafter – Corporate Award) is to determine the best corporate teams in rogaining, to promote cohesion, endurance and cooperation within company teams, and to offer an exciting and sporty adventure. This award gives companies a unique opportunity to strengthen their teams, develop strategy together and compete in friendly rivalry, where the main emphasis is on the joy of participation, making new contacts and team-building rather than only on the competitive element.
11.2. The team entry fee is specified in point 7.2 of the regulations. In addition, the corporate class entry fee includes:

  • Separate rogaining and challenge prizes;
  • A link/logo in the team list to the company’s specified website;
  • A company photo collage;
  • Special offers from partners.

11.3. The Corporate Award takes place within the 4-hour distance and teams can be of any composition – mixed, women’s or men’s.
11.4. The Corporate Award is a separate competition for teams representing companies or organisations. All points of these regulations apply to the Corporate Award class, unless point 11 and its sub-points state otherwise.
11.5. In each rogaining of the series, in the 4-hour distance the result of a corporate class team is determined by the total number of points collected at control points in the shortest possible time. If two or more teams have the same number of points, the team that finishes faster is ranked higher.
11.6. The Corporate Award is calculated by summing up the points obtained by a given company’s team (by name) in the specific distance in all rogainings of the series, excluding one event with the lowest result (a missed event is also considered as such). If point totals are equal, the higher place is given to the team with the shorter total time spent on the course. If the total times are also equal, the higher place is determined by the better result in the last rogaining of the season.
11.5. The top three Corporate Award teams, regardless of group, are awarded separate prizes. The result of the corporate class team is also included in the overall Legends Rogaining ranking according to the class and group in which the team has started, thus they also compete for the overall series awards.

12. PUBLICITY AND PRIVACY

12.1. Photography and filming will take place during the competition.
12.2. By registering for the competition, participants confirm that they do not object to the use of photos and video material taken during the rogaining for any marketing and advertising activities of the organiser. Participants also agree that the organisers have the right to use this material for public relations and advertising purposes without additional consent from the persons visible in the material, and to offer other participants the possibility to download this material.
12.3. By registering for the competition, participants confirm that they do not object to the publication of the start list and results on the event website.
